First Day of School!

School is in session!

The kids were excited to start, which I found surprising but refreshing.  The week has been going pretty smoothly.  I give thanks to the fact that I've taught some of the material before and familiar with the curriculum.  I also give thanks that the first few lessons are super easy and just easing into things.

Day 2 of math with Eli had me laughing.  He said, "Is that it?" when we finished the lesson, so I pulled out some flashcards.  He's never done flashcards, but a BIG smile came over his face.  He read 9+9=...and said, "Okay, so 20-2 is 18."  I just sat there staring at him...my dad said that's how my grandpa thinks about numbers and he's a brilliant man, but I have no idea how to teach that way!

We read 'If you give a moose a muffin' and made muffins.  Then we ate them with milk!

We also counted marshmallows.

Eli worked on writing 'M's and made an M mountain.

Preschool-letter 'N'

Snack: nests (green rice crispy treats with chocolate candies as eggs)

Craft: Noah's ark
Nativity picture
noodle necklaces

Game: put your nose on a number
I called out a number and the first person to put their nose on that number won a point...great for number recognition.

N came at Christmas time, so we celebrated with our own little Christmas party!

Making silly faces while drinking "warm chocolate" and eating popcorn and cookies:

We made reindeer hats and played reindeer games (Santa says and relay races).

We ended our day with a Christmas movie.  I had to document this moment because it's a big deal that Bubby is sharing his blankie...oh, the blessing of friends.

Preschool-Letter 'H'

We've started doing preschool one day a week with a friend.  It's so much more fun playing games and doing crafts with others.

We jumped in with them at the letter H.
Here, they're learning about animal homes and habitats.  We talked about how God made the animals and gave them the instincts to know how to build their homes.
We also watched a short video about animal's homes.

We started a notebook full of letters to trace and color.

Then they look through magazines to find pictures of things that start with that letter and glue them in their folder.

We played hop scotch and then ate heart apples and Ho Ho's (healthy/unhealthy food) and

ham and cheese rolls (hot/cold food)
