Fun Fridays

One of my goals for this year is to soak up California, so I planned for us to do school 4 days a week and then have "Fun Fridays".  Typically, I would say "Field Trip Fridays" but it's 2020 and field trips are basically impossible.  Sometimes the best thing you can do is just be intentional with your time.  Here are some of the fun things we've done.

We went on a nature walk in Oak Canyon.  Eli's not in the picture because he was watching a lizard at the time.

We've done some baking.  Here, Eli is making sourdough pumpkin muffins.

We've gone to the Mugu beach to play in the sand and relax.

We went to Conejo Creek Park and then picked up Nothin' Bundt Cakes.

Alison and I finally celebrated the healing of her wrist/thumb and went to get manicures!

We also picked up pumpkin spice latte's and did some jean shopping at the outlets.

I've only checked two things off my long list of activities I want to do, so fingers-crossed parks and trails stay open.

A tale of Alison's hair

Alison started telling us that she really wanted to highlight the front strands of her hair.  The 90's fashion is coming back in full force and bleached hair is coming back right up there with mom jeans and tie-dye.

Pinterest example of what she wanted:

Ben agreed to help her dye her hair.  He took her to CVS, bought a blonde dye kit and did her hair.

Unfortunately, the dye turned her hair brassy.  So we tried to color lift it, which did nothing.

I was already planning on taking her to my hair lady for a good "real" haircut, so I just asked if she could fix the coloring while we were there.  You know you've found a good hair lady when she says "Absolutely!  I'll take care of everything."  She fit Alison into her schedule and spent almost 3 hours, diligently working on her hair.  I really appreciated the time she took to make everything perfect for Alison and made her first real salon experience a great one, even during a pandemic.

The finished product!

She loves how it turned out and more than anything, I don't think she'll ever forget the time her dad dyed her hair 😉

Pumpkin carving

We got a few pumpkins from the farm and I even ordered a nice carving kit, but only Colin wanted to carve his.  He was SO excited to carve "Jack" and even drew out his plans.  He worked hard to finish up school early, just so he could work on his pumpkin.

Alison came out and helped with some of the finishing touches.

Eli brought his school out to hang out with us...this is the face he gives me when I ask him to smile.

And I just realized I never got a picture of the finished product...sorry Colin!  But it looked great!

Maya's favorite spot

Maya likes to keep a close eye on Alison when she's working on school.  She's the best homeschool dog 😀

Grammar with Colin

Every day when I ask Colin what the definition of an adjective is, he answers with a completely new, made-up definition.  He was way sillier in the video because he knew I was recording, but this is a glimpse of teaching my stinker.
