A week behind...

Last week, we had our first play date in Arizona.  Fellow homeschoolers from church came over for the afternoon and we made chocolate chip cookie bars and fresh lemonade for a "tea party".  Eli was shocked by the bars..."What are these?!"...apparently I've never made cookie bars before, but I'm hooked now because they are SO much easier!

The kids had a blast and it was great to get to know some new friends.  The only problem of the day was Maya barked at our visitors.  Not just a "hi, I want to play with you" bark, but an "INTRUDER!!!" bark and continued to bark at Eli the rest of the day.  He wasn't too sure about Maya that day and even said he wanted to send her back...sad face.  She definitely doesn't have a weeny bark, so I can understand being scared, but we talked quite a bit about how dogs bark for different reasons and Maya has some issues she's going to have to work through.

He didn't want to be far from me the rest of the day, so he crashed in Ben's spot.

More than Maya having issues, we need to learn how to work with her as well.  Clearly 4 boys running into our house was overwhelming to her and we need to figure out how to introduce new people to her.

*not to give future posts away, but this issue gets resolved very quickly and Maya is doing great*

We had a couple 100 degree days last week, but it still has remained true that if you are in the shade, you feel fine.  Ben built us a picnic table and we had snacks/reading time outside this week.  Doesn't the table look awesome?

Friday, was 'family day' at Ben's command and they hosted a big party.  They had 5 bounce houses and lots of food.

This was another 100 degree day and we had already been outside for homeschool group all morning.  Ben and I started worrying about Alison overheating so we made her stay in the shade and not go on the extra hot bounce houses.  She didn't mind; it gave her extra time to work on her modeling.

It was fun for me to meet some of the people Ben works with and we came home just in time for our somehow-now-routine-eat-dessert-on-the-patio time.
Just to keep it real for you, here's some video of real Shear life.
Maya has really come out of her shell and will bolt around the backyard now...boy is she fast!

Colin didn't really care for his popsicle (we tried a Mexican watermelon kind) so we thought it would be funny to give it to Maya.  However, the funny part was right after this video, Colin picked the popsicle back up and started eating it again!
