Check-ups

We've had appointments gallore, which feels really odd coming out of a time when getting any appointments was impossible...Praise the Lord Alison didn't break her wrist in April!

First, Alison got her cast off to get an x-ray to see how her bone is healing.  It was a doozy of a day.  First, the tech cut Alison's thumb while removing the cast and then set the new cast wrong and her thumb was in the wrong position.

The good news is her bone is healing well and surgery was not discussed, although I am not happy with this doctor and we just got a referral to see a different doctor that will hopefully be more attentive.  Ben took Alison back the next day to have the pink cast removed and made darn sure that tech didn't cut her again!  He had them put on an exos brace instead, but they still set this one weird and he had to fix it at home.

Not very excited that I made her come read on the beach with me.  Sand and casts are not friends...

The pros of this cast is that we can take it off and clean it when it gets dirty.  The cons are that it makes her hand sweat more, which makes it extra stinky.  She's just all-around done with being injured!

The same day as the pink cast fiasco, she also had to go to the orthodontist and they put the wrong color of bands on.

A couple of days later, all the kids had their well checks.  It was confirmed that Alison is officially taller than me...even though it doesn't look like it in this picture.

She's now 5'6 3/4" and in the 94th percentile for height, 50th percentile for weight.
It was also confirmed that Alison is allergic to dust mites.  She's been having trouble breathing at night so we'll be treating the carpets in her room soon (she already has the fancy dust mite covers on her pillow and bed).
After all the stinky appointments, Alison asked if we could please make peanut butter stuff.
YES.  The answer will always be yes to peanut butter stuff.

Eli is in the 75th percentile for height and 50th for weight.  I love the doctor we are seeing and she has been spot on, on some of the medical issues we've encountered.  I asked the doctor in Yuma about the little pimples that Eli will get on his checks, arms and legs and he told me that they appear when he's stressed.  That's not true...I asked this doctor and thought maybe she would send us to a dermatologist, but instantly knew that it was kerotosis pilaris.  It's a hereditary skin condition (I have it on my arms) and you just treat it with a special lotion.  Unfortunately, Eli also had to get a Dtap shot.  He was so brave and handled it like a champ!  School the next day looked like this:

Actually, this is a historic picture because he decided that evening that he was too old for his blankie and put it in a box in the garage.  AND he has started to style his own hair.

Colin hated that he had to get undressed for the appointment.  Thought it was worth documenting what a doctor's appointment during a pandemic looks like.

Colin is 50 lbs (usually a little more when we weigh him at home) and in the 25th percentile!  Party!!!  He's in the 50th for height.

We would like to thank potatoes for his current weight standing.  Within the last year, he has fallen in LOVE with potatoes.  I went years without buying white potatoes, but when we discovered that Colin will devour them, we started making it a priority to add them into our menus.  I keep on hand hash browns for breakfast and baking potatoes for lunch just in case he needs a little boost.  I've also started keeping little ice cream sandwiches in the freezer if he needs some extra calories at the end of the day.
A good, not good thing that we've finally figured out with Colin is that he gets abdominal migraines.  It has seriously been years of trying to solve this puzzle and again, I'm thankful for our current doctor.  About every six weeks, Colin will say that he feels like he's going to throw up but have no other symptoms and it goes away after about a day.  It wasn't until I started getting migraines in the last year or so that I was able to piece together what might be happening.  He's able now to say that he feels like he's starting to get a migraine and is also able to tell me when he just feels "off" because of it.  Unfortunately, this means that Colin will most likely battle migraines his whole life, but we're thankful to know how to start fighting them right when he first starts feeling bad.

Now the question is, how many years to I have of being able to post the details of doctor's appointments?  Probably not many.

I believe both my mother and Jordan have those little bumps that Eli has. And wow, OK I knew Alison had outgrown me but WOW. Maybe Colin and I will be the two shorties in the family :)
