Mammoth Lakes trip, Day 1

We were SO excited for this trip.  Ben is still under tight restrictions because of Covid, but Mammoth Lakes was inside his travel restrictions and offered all non-public things he can do, like hiking and paddleboarding.  We took the truck to haul all of our gear for our adventure; we even took Maya!  It was too hot for her to ride in the back, so she had to sit with Alison up front and slobber all over her legs the entire time.

At first we were going to camp, but could only reserve a site for one night, so we decided to splurge and rent a condo for a few days.  Praise the Lord we did!  Because on our drive up, California decided to close down all national parks, which means we wouldn't have been able to get to our campsite.  Unfortunately, this news also meant that all of our original plans went out the door.  Ben really wanted to take us to the Whitney Portal for lunch, but the road up was closed just before we arrived there.  So we had to pull over in the desert for a quick pbj lunch and climbed some rocks.

The #1 rule of the trip, was NO GETTING HURT.  We were extra careful climbing the rocks, but Maya almost broke the rule when she tried to follow the kids up the boulder.

Once we were unpacked at our condo, we went out to eat for the first time in a really long time.  Colin ate his entire burrito and truth be told, the extra fries we ordered, were my favorite.

After dinner, we stopped by the park that was right next to our condo.   Can you spy the locked up swings in the background? #2020

While Colin slept on top of the rock, Alison and Eli watched a little mole poke his head in and out of this little hole.  It was very entertaining watching him work.

Ben and I went out that evening, to get some groceries and to stop in a local outdoors shop.  We were feeling a little bummed that everything was closed.  Thankfully, we spoke to someone at the outdoors shop and he gave us a little inside scoop on things we could still do.  We were determined to make the best out of our adventure!
