Florida, part 3

It rained some this day, but it didn't stop us from having fun.

Some played charades, while others played pool.

Then some of us went to Pier Park and did a little shopping.

The girls tried alligator and kangaroo jerky.

The boys bought a football and threw it around while grandma found a t-shirt.

Grandpa played a game with some of the kids in the pool.

The sun came out and we went for a stroll.

That evening, we went out to dinner.  It was so nice to let the kids play while we waited for food.

Historic picture right here!

Aunt Jen is pretty much chopped liver to Charles, but us blondes have to stick together :)

Katherine asked Eli to teach her how to solve the rubix cube, so they walked around with it for much of the afternoon.

Our last Florida day

Ben flew to Seattle from Florida for work, so I had to take him to the airport at 5am.  I got back to the house in time to watch the sunrise.  I wasn't complaining about having the beach all to myself.

We packed up and said our goodbyes.  I could have definitely used more time :)

Our flight didn't leave until the afternoon, so we made a few stops before heading to the airport.
First up, we went back to Pier Park and said goodbye to the ocean.

Then we got food and found a park.  But the oddest thing happened, we played for about 5 minutes and they said they were closing the park for cleaning.  I've never heard of a park closing for cleaning, but I guess they do in Florida.

Thankfully we had all smooth traveling.  The kids continue to be amazing travelers and were very helpful along the way.  Also, very thankful for this trip!  It was wonderful!

Eli's 14th Birthday!

He's a "real" teen!
This was the first year in Eli's life that he slept in on his birthday.
We only have Dunkin' Donuts here, but a Boston cream and glazed donut are Eli's favorite.

His first present was 'Beat Saber' on VR.

Fun Fact: Eli's favorite artist is Eminem

Then he opened presents.

Legos are still life around here.

Then we headed to Chick-fil-A for lunch.

We usually put in a mobile order while we're driving down, since it's a good 20 minutes and then it's ready for us when we get there.  Somehow I glitched something while ordering and accidentally ordered 8 fries!  Good thing we love their fries :)

As tradition now, we went to Dave N' Busters afterwards.

However, this time we were a little mad a Dave N' Busters, as they've doubled their prices!

The rest of the afternoon was spent building Legos while jammin' out to Eminem.

Unfortunately, it was another birthday that Alison had to work and she missed going to the dumpling house again.  If you want to see Eli really happy, you take him here and get him some dumplings and a hot pot.

Ben and Eli stayed up late finishing this Lego set from Dune and adding lights to it.

(Ben's watching a video on how to install the lights)

Happy Birthday Eli!  I cannot tell you how much we love you!!!

The eclipse

New York only had a partial eclipse, but it was still amazing to be part of history.  Ben and Alison were at work and the boys played basketball while taking stops to look at the changing sun.

Maya kept watch for us

The funny part of this day was that I ended up hanging with Ray, our neighbor across the street.  He's a single man, around his 60's, who works from home and gives us some entertainment.   He is strict on his schedule: opens his blinds a certain way every morning at exactly 7am, takes out one super dinky trashbag every trash day, goes to the grocery store every Tuesday before 7am and comes home with 2 small grocery bags of food.  But most entertaining is that he will frequently plop himself down in his yard with a little bucket and pick leaves.  We haven't figured out how he decides which leaves go and which stay, but he is a diligent picker.   This particular day, he came out of his house and started to look up at the sun.  I ran across the street, shouting "Ah!  Here!  Take these glasses!" I let him keep the glasses and he was very thankful and we ended up talking for an hour while watching the eclipse.  I heard some entertaining stories and I most definitely will not forget the afternoon I spent with Ray.

If you're wondering...

What Ben's been up to...well, he's been busy!

He finished his dissertation!

We'll have a graduation party May 4th, but I still had to document the day that it was printed and mailed off.  Hmm, I'm not sure the correct order of the titles, but very soon it will Doctor Reverend Lieutenant Commander Chaplain Shear.

Also, he's put his new birthday gifts to good use and created some videos of his hikes.  He's gone a few recently while traveling for work.  You can check out his youtube page here, but here is his most recent video.

Happy Easter!

The Friday before Easter, we dyed eggs.

Life right now:

This is a weird stage of life that I wasn't quite prepared for.  The kids are old enough to help me make the dye and I don't worry about spills or messes, but then words like 'Fart' appear on my pretty eggs.

Easter morning, the kids found baskets.  I think it may be time to get bigger baskets...

Colin helped me make deviled eggs while I made sourdough bagels.
(p.s. Colin is amazing at making deviled eggs.  He has been known to make them for a snack.)

We had brunch before heading to church.

For the record, I was wearing very tall heels and that is the only reason you can see my head.  Colin is growing like a weed and is just a hair shorter than me...which will mean I will be the shortest in the family very, very soon.

And also, sorry to Alison for holding your waist so tight, making your shirt look weird.  I just love you too much!

After church, we enjoyed the rare sunny day and took Maya for a walk.  Then some guitar playing happened and after dinner we all played a game.
