Vacation! Day 1

Early Sunday morning, we hit the road!
By the way Nana, the backpacks you gave the kids for Thanksmas were perfect for this trip.  They each were able to carry their own electronic, snack and water and then also had it for carrying stuff while hiking.

We drove up to Sequoia National park and stayed at house we rented through Airbnb, which I would highly recommend from this experience.  We stopped at the last town before the mountains to get groceries and then Ben grilled steaks for dinner.

Perfect evening right here.

The kids did amazing traveling and it was so refreshing to be in the mountains.  The house we stayed at reminded us all of my parents house.  It was crazy how many similar things there were; from the decorations to the furniture to the games and movies they had on the shelves.  It was nice to feel the comforts of home while being in the mountains.

Playing Guess Who

We picked this house because it was pretty close the things we wanted to see and because it had land around it where the kids could play.  We learned from our last cabin experience and this was a priority for us.

It didn't take long for the boys to be playing with sticks.

The owners warned us of poison oak and even had medicine ready for us just in case.  Ben gave the kids a little lesson in what it looked like, but thankfully we didn't run into any.

Life isn't too bad when you get to end the day with this:
