Ben ran in the Yuma Half Marathon last weekend. He did AMAZING!
The race was just a few minutes from our house, so the kids and I were able to just drive over around the time Ben should be finishing. I was surprised to find just a few people there to cheer on the runners coming in. This was the finish line crowd...pretty sad, right?
It was a blistering 50° and the kids were freezing. I brought the blanket for all the kids to share, but Eli hogged it all.
Runners started coming in and we were the only ones cheering. Alison says I cheer loud enough for a crowd, but I still felt bad for the runners.
We had the best seats in the house to watch Ben crush his personal record and cross the finish line at 1:32!!!
A person dressed in a broccoli costume handed him a cup of broccoli right after he crossed the finish line. If you look closely at the picture above, the green blob on the left edge, is the broccoli. A medal, water and broccoli...it's the award of champions.
Ben actually got 2 medals because he place 2nd in his age group and 14th overall! We are so proud of all his hard work. I think it's a huge accomplishment running 13 miles through the desert, just looking at fields and fields of broccoli.
After the race, we went downtown to the Date Festival. What better way to refuel than a date shake?
(The boys are not happy that we all had to share a shake, but boy those things are sweet and you don't need too much)

Aw that's SAD that so few people were there to cheer on the runners. Tell Alison it helps so much when people cheer you on, well at least it helps me. Ben did amazing--the two of you inspire my own running.
