Both Alison and Eliot had not fun doctor's appointments this week. Usually I would reward them with ice cream or candy, but I've really been trying to make a conscious effort to take the focus off of food. I don't want them to associate comfort with sweets, so this week I told them we would do something fun after the appointment. I was pleasantly surprised that it worked great to get their mind off of the not-fun stuff.
Eli had to get his 4 year shots and they were a doosy. The nurse told me that he wouldn't want to walk, but the more he moved his legs, the better. She was right. We stopped by the grocery store afterwards and he thought he was paralyzed. So we went to the park for a picnic and to play and he finally found the energy to walk around.
His little legs must have hurt because he limped around for a good 24 hours after the shots.
The next day, Alison had to get some blood drawn for her allergy tests. It was a long wait for prescriptions and lab work, but they were all troopers. Poor Alison was so worked about the needle that she started crying the moment she sat down in the chair. She was fine once they got going, but it took 3 nurses to calm her down.
I bought this fun sprinkler and 3 water guns on clearance last year and have been saving it ever since for a fun surprise. They had a blast and soon forgot the long afternoon. They called it the water worms and pranced around yard shooting each other.
Colin, however, did not like those "worms". He just cried "water" in this pitiful voice and sat on the steps. This boy is just full of surprises.
This is totally random, but that day I found this:
Colin apparently was not happy he had to take a nap and pulled his curtain down...into his crib. Scary? Yes. A little funny? Also yes.

Oh I have always been scared of needles, a lot! But it looks like your reward worked wonderfully, well except for Colin. He's so funny.
